The Heavenly Demon Receives A Massage chapter 69

The Heavenly Demon Receives A Massage

After setting up the tent completely, Kang Tae-han brought the remaining gear from the car into the tent, then took out the wood and grill he had prepared, getting ready to start a fire.

“Once the sleeping area is ready, next comes the fire.”

A campfire can make a big difference in the camping experience. Not only can you warm your food, but the fire also provides essential warmth at night after the sun has set. While this camping trip wasn’t for survival, Kang Tae-han’s extensive outdoor experience made him feel at ease with a fire.

“Are you going to start the fire?”

“Yes. We’ll need it to grill the meat for dinner, so I’ll light it early.”

He pointed to the sun, which was slowly setting in the west. Although it was still a little early for dinner, it’s best to eat early in the mountains.

“Anything I can help with?”

“Hmm… not really.”

“Then, can I watch?”

Kang Tae-han nodded readily. Although it wasn’t a show-worthy task, it wasn’t something that needed to be hidden either.

“This is my first time seeing someone start a fire this way.”

Yu Se-ah smiled expectantly as she brought a camping chair close to him. Then, glancing sideways, she was surprised by the proximity and quickly looked forward again.

‘…This is closer than I thought.’

Without thinking, she had set her chair right next to him, and the distance was unexpectedly close. Turning her head, she could see his face right there.

If you think about it, it was about the same as the distance between the driver’s and passenger’s seats in a car. But sitting this close in an open space felt entirely different.

She liked it—a lot, actually. Her lips twitched with excitement.

But it was also a bit embarrassing, so her ears were slightly red.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. The air here is so refreshing.”

Yu Se-ah looked around aimlessly.

“The air is indeed clear.”

Kang Tae-han smiled and nodded as he lit the fire starter on the woodpile. The weather was dry, with a light breeze—a perfect combination. The fire caught on the kindling and soon spread to the dry logs, creating a full-fledged campfire.

‘Nice.’

As the initial flames settled into a steady burn, Kang Tae-han placed the charcoal, which he had brought specifically for grilling, into the fire. This charcoal was separate from the firewood used for the campfire.

‘In about 20 minutes, it should be ready.’

Now all he had to do was wait. Judging the fire’s intensity, he estimated how long it would take for the charcoal to be ready.

“Camping has just started, but…”

A little while later, Yu Se-ah spoke quietly.

She had been watching him closely as he lit the fire, and now she gazed at the campfire.

“What should I say? It feels really nice.”

“Really?”

“Yes, the peaceful atmosphere is lovely, the gentle breeze feels refreshing, and I love the sound of the wind blowing through the forest. And…”

She hesitated, almost confessing that she found his focused fire-lighting process very attractive, but she couldn’t bring herself to say it out loud.

“…I love the campfire.”

Instead, she opted for a vague answer.

“Oh, you have two grills?”

“Yes, one for the campfire and one for cooking.”

When the charcoal began to show a white ash coating, Kang Tae-han took out a separate grill and transferred the charcoal into it. The flames had subsided, but the embers still radiated intense heat.

‘It was a good idea to bring enough charcoal.’

Testing the heat with his hand, the warmth immediately touched his palm. Kang Tae-han placed a rack on top of the grill and then laid the meat directly on it.

Sizzle!

A large slab of pork neck sizzled on the hot charcoal grill.

When he flipped it over, the savory scent of the meat soaked with the smoky charcoal flavor wafted through the air, and the grill marks were visible on the seared surface.

“Wow… that looks delicious!”

Yu Se-ah, peeking over the grill, exclaimed with wide eyes.

The sizzling meat over the red-hot coals was enough to stimulate anyone’s appetite.

“I knew you were good at grilling meat, but I didn’t expect you to do so well outdoors too.”

“Well… you could say this is my specialty.”

Kang Tae-han shrugged casually. Grilling meat outdoors and doing it inside were quite different, but he had far more experience cooking outdoors.

“You also seem to know your way around the kitchen, Se-ah.”

He glanced over at Yu Se-ah, who was cooking rice in a pot and preparing soybean paste stew with brisket slices, zucchini, tofu, and a spicy green chili pepper. The aroma alone was mouthwatering.

“You haven’t even tasted it yet.”

“You can tell if soybean paste stew is good just by smelling it.”

Yu Se-ah’s lips curled up into a smile. She didn’t know if he meant it or if he was just flattering her, but the words filled her with pride.

After a short while, a delicious spread was laid out on the table next to the campfire. The tender, charcoal-grilled pork neck was paired with fragrant soybean paste stew and perfectly cooked rice. With the kimchi and lettuce that Kang Tae-han had brought along, the luxurious meal had the perfect camping feel.

“Wow, why does this meat taste so good?”

Even though it was pork neck, there was no dryness, only tenderness. Each bite released savory juices imbued with a smoky aroma.

“The stew is also excellent.”

In awe, Yu Se-ah clapped her hands in delight.

To Yoo Se-ah, Kang Tae-han also smiled and offered a word of praise.

As he scooped a piece of brisket into the stew and mixed it with the white rice, the nutty and salty taste of the stew matched so perfectly with the grains of rice.

A spoonful of rice with meat, then one with stew.

Eating in this way, the two of them soon cleared the table they had set.

Not even one piece of lettuce or a slice of kimchi remained.

“Ah. That was a really good meal.”

“Thanks to Ms. Se-ah, it was delicious.”

“Oh, it was all Tae-han who did the hard work.”

At her words, Kang Tae-han smiled lightly and began peeling away the foil that was rolled up.

The things Yoo Se-ah had brought separately for starting the campfire.

Once he unwrapped the foil, fluffy baked potatoes revealed themselves.

“…But what about the tent?” Yoo Se-ah cautiously brought up the topic they had carefully avoided until now.

Since the sun was slowly setting, she couldn’t help but ask.

“There’s no helping it. As I mentioned before.”

Kang Tae-han replied calmly, putting a piece of the cooled potato in his mouth.

“Really? Is that okay?”

“You know it’s the tent that Ms. Se-ah chose. It’s quite spacious for one person.”

The tent Yoo Se-ah had picked and purchased at the department store.

The reason she chose it was that the tent was large enough for two people to enter.

‘The size of the tent is not the problem.’

The idea of sharing a tent with Kang Tae-han!

If you were to ask if it was a good or bad thing, it would be a good thing, but this was an unexpected turn of events.

Who could have predicted that a tent, never before opened, would be torn?

“Oops.”

Meanwhile, a ‘tick’ sound came from the table, followed by the appearance of a drop of water.

Then the sound of raindrops started to fall one by one around them.

“Strange. There was no rain forecast.”

Yoo Se-ah said with a troubled voice.

Fortunately, they had finished cleaning up after the meal.

“I’ll fold the table. Ms. Se-ah, go ahead and get in the tent.”

As the rain started to pour more heavily, Kang Tae-han, who stood up first, pointed to the tent and spoke.

“Then I’ll move the chairs.”

“That would be nice.”

After Yoo Se-ah folded the two chairs and placed them under the canopy, she entered the tent, and soon after, Kang Tae-han also came inside.

“Phew. It was clear a moment ago, and now it’s chaos.”

“Yeah. What about the campfire?”

“Just leave it in the rain. It’s not a problem if it goes out, but it would be a problem if it spreads.”

Kang Tae-han answered her question and sat down on the floor.

“I still feel a bit sad about it.”

“It’s okay. It’s not a big deal.”

The two sat side by side in the tent, silently looking toward the entrance.

Only the sound of raindrops hitting the canvas filled the quiet space.

‘What should I do…’

While she appeared natural on the outside, Yoo Se-ah was tense.

Even though the interior was spacious, it was just a tent, after all.

Perhaps because of that, Kang Tae-han’s presence next to her felt even larger than usual.

His thick forearms were particularly noticeable.

Once she became conscious of it, she couldn’t even sneak a glance.

“It’s nice.”

“…Yes?”

“Listening to the sound of the rain inside the tent. I’ve always enjoyed it.”

Kang Tae-han said in a calm voice with a faint smile, looking quite unchanged from usual.

‘Am I the only one who’s conscious about this…’

Suddenly feeling disheartened by Kang Tae-han’s reaction, Yoo Se-ah let out a small laugh unwittingly.

“Why?”

“Because I like it too. Listening to the rain like this.”

She responded in a calm voice to Kang Tae-han’s calm words.

Then she turned her right hand over and held Kang Tae-han’s left hand that was resting on top of it.

The two then spent some quiet time watching the same spot, without any words.

* * *

The next day, late in the afternoon.

“Heh.”

Having just gotten out of a taxi, Kang Tae-han unintentionally chuckled as he looked up at the building in front of him.

A building that was not long finished, still showing signs of newness.

It was designed primarily as a hotel, and even the building’s exterior boasted a rather stylish design.

‘It looks taller than 22 floors?’

He had to tilt his head a bit more than expected to see the top, but upon counting, there were indeed the same 22 floors he’d heard of.

This meant that each floor’s height was quite generous.

“Excuse me, are you Mr. Kang Tae-han?”

While admiring the impressive exterior, someone approached him and struck up a conversation.

“Yes, that’s me.”

“I’m the interior designer, Hwang Yoon-su, you were supposed to meet today. We had arranged to meet at the café, but I saw you as I was coming over.”

“Ah, hello.”

As Hwang Yoon-su offered a business card and bowed, Kang Tae-han also received the card and bowed in return.

‘He’s renowned in the industry.’

After the massage session with Chae Seo-yoon ended and they had dinner together, when the topic of the store came up and interior design was mentioned, Shin Jun-ho mentioned he knew a famous person in the business and offered to introduce him.

And now, the business card he was holding.

It belonged to a company that Kang Tae-han had previously researched and contacted.

It was already famous in the industry, responsible for the layout of stores belonging to well-known chains.

But at that time, they had told him they were fully booked and unable to take on new requests for a while.

Yet now.

‘It seems Mr. Shin really does have a wide network.’

After Shin Jun-ho reached out, Hwang Yoon-su readily agreed to meet and came out like this.
